A Locally-Owned Chain of Sandwich Concocters The Sandwich Factory is quintessential-corner-store. Absolutely teensy-weensy, plugged on an unassuming Prince St. corner in downtown Lancaster. Crates of bakery-fresh Amoroso rolls (the bread makes the sandwich!) are packed into one corner, a soda fountain and chip rack are tucked into another. This place just oozes “city”. One step in here, and you just know that they know what they’re doing. And boy, do they ever. And because this place is so delightfully tiny, you get a full-on view of the action. Everything’s located behind the counter—grill, fryer, fridge, everything, so you can see ‘em make each veggie hoagie (don’t call it a sub), each cheesesteak (one word, folks), every piping hot corned beef and the very last tuna salad melt. They even do Cubans (you know, mustard and pickles, smashed thin?), a daring feat indeed. But we understand that you non-Lancastrians might not wanna brave the treacherous maze of one-ways to eat a killer hoagie (but props if you can manage). Fortunately, you can get your nosh on in two other satellite Sandwich Factories, aptly named Sandwich Factory “II” and “III”. They lose the tiny quirky deli feel in favor of a more relaxed and certainly more spacious environment. Numero dos (in Neffsville) has a wide-open neighborhood pizza joint feel, while the Lititz location is in an ex-ice cream parlor which is, frankly, like the most adorable place ever. But they all have the same killer menu and sandwich-slinging expertise. So whatever you prefer, you can find a pretty pleasurable environment in which to chow on that towering Factory club.
